Bricks for Classrooms

Los Amigos Episcopales Plans Five New Classrooms in El Salvador

Los Amigos Episcopales, a peace and justice ministry in the Diocese of Ohio works through the Diocese of El Salvador to provide a variety of assistance to the people there. Their latest project will assist in purchasing and renovating a house adjacent to San Andrés Apostal School, which will be converted to five classrooms.

The classroom project, undertaken with several other Episcopal dioceses, needs to raise $35,000 and complete the renovation soon in order to pay the seller for the property. With this in mind, Los Amigos has initiated its “Bricks for Classrooms” project.

A classroom model is making its way around the Diocese of Ohio. Donors can purchase bricks, doors, windows or roof sections and their names can be appropriately placed on the model. Many donor names already adorn the surfaces. The cost of materials are as follows:

Bricks: $10 each

Windows: $50 each

Doors: $100 each

Roofing sections: $200 each

If you'd like to make a donation or to arrange to have the classroom model visit your church, contact Ruth Ihde (440-572-9425) or Maggie Boswell (440-572-2379). Informational displays are included with the classroom model, which has so far raised over $5,500.

Los Amigos Episcopales has provided extensive goods and services to the Diocese of El Salvador in the past, including roofing, bathroom facilities, water towers for schools, scholarship funds, school supplies, sports equipment, and small libraries. They have also assisted Episcopal Relief and Development in a reforestation project, and the building of a medical clinic, providing medical supplies and security systems.
