Report of Team from Ohio to Tanga
A seven member team from the Diocese of Ohio visited the Diocese of Tanga, Tanzania, Africa, in summer 2011 to explore a companion diocese partnership. This is a report of that visit.
The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)—What are they?
- Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger.
- Achieve universal primary education.
- Promote gender equality and empower women.
- Reduce child mortality.
- Improve maternal health.
- Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases.
- Ensure environmental sustainability
- Create a global partnership for development with targets for aid, trade and debt relief.
Our Episcopal Church actively supports the movement to achieve these Goals. One great resource for learning more about them and the Episcopal Church connection is: Episcopalians for Global Reconciliation http://www.e4gr.org/mdgs/fast_facts.html

Global and Domestic Mission Project Funding
Commission for Global & Domestic Mission - 2012 Grant Request for Mission Projects
From: Office for Mission, Episcopal Diocese of Ohio, The Rev. Marie Phillips, Interim Canon
The following are the procedures by which your parish may request support for global and/or domestic mission projects to be funded through the Diocesan Budget in support of the Millennium Development Goals and the Presiding Bishop's eleven domestic poverty challenges.
The Commission on Global & Domestic Mission (CGDM), which recommends to the Diocesan Council & Bishop Hollingsworth the projects to be funded, must receive requests no later than July 15, 2012.
The following information makes clear the initial information CGDM needs in order to make decisions about funding. If more information is needed, a CGDM member will contact the parish contact person given in the request for support. Any applications having to do with the Mission Partnerships of Tanga and Belize should be coordinated with the chairs of the Tanga and Belize sub-committees.
CGDM anticipates that requests will be made by parishes on behalf of agencies or projects with which they have some active connection, either because of work they support with hands-on service by parish members or because of their own donations, whether in dollars or in-kind.
In October 2011, allocations were made to ten (10) agencies or groups with connections to parishes in the Diocese of Ohio:
- Agricultural Project for School Funding in Liberia
- Rupel Marshall Nursery & Primary School in Liberia
- St. Francis Outreach Trust: Homes to Grow, Cape Town, South Africa
- Tanga/Ohio Health Partnership
- Environmental Sustainability for Haitian Immigrants, Dominican Republic
- Holy Cross Anglican Primary School in San Pedro, Ambergris Cay Belize
- El Maizal Agricultural Safety and Security, el Salvador
- St. Agnes School of Mahogany Heights, Belize
- Little Dresses for Haiti
- ServLife International, Hope Fund for Village of Thingan, Nepal
