Cedar Hills Receives Gift for Transforming Lives

Cedar Hills quiltCedar Hills Camp is a place where memories are made and lives are impacted. On June 20, 2008, two dedicated camp volunteers from St. Thomas Episcopal Church of Berea celebrated the years of transformation offered through the ministry of Cedar Hills Camp with the gift of a handmade quilt. Mary Lee Stowell and Marcie Hist presented Director Pete Nielsen and his wife Laura with the quilt in recognition of the positive impact that Cedar Hills has had on so many lives. Marcie is the quilter and Mary Lee helped purchase materials, design the quilt, and tie the knots.

The quilt is made of summer camp T-shirts beginning with the 1994 camping season, Pete’s first season as director, and is a tribute to the 14 summer camp seasons in which over 3500 children have attended.

To give context to this important ministry, in this period, 280,000 contact hours had been provided to children, through positive role models committed to Christian character building, as well as to the development of a healthy self-image and community consciousness. It also celebrates the gracious generosity of our diocesan family who supports this ministry and make miracles such as camp available to our youth. Thank you.
